Frequently Asked Questions

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

To preserve a walnut finish, dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish along the grain twice a year. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and moisture sources, using coasters and trivets to protect the polished wood surface.

A warm walnut coffee table creates a grounding anchor in a modern living space when paired with neutral upholstery, contemporary ceramics, and structured linen sofas. Combining rich timber tones with clean, minimalist textiles creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Authentic period or high-quality revival pieces showcase hand-carved details such as shell knee carvings, hand-shaped cabriole legs, and natural ageing on the underside of the timber frame. Look for matched quartered veneers, original joinery methods, and natural patina rather than modern spray lacquers.

Traditional antique walnut tables typically feature solid walnut framing with figured burr walnut veneers laid over solid core timber. Hand-carved knee details, ball-and-claw terminal feet, and natural shellac or beeswax finishes are standard construction features.

Queen Anne style furniture, originating in the early eighteenth century, is characterised by graceful curves, cabriole legs, pad or claw-and-ball feet, and restrained shell motifs. Coffee tables in this style are often later adaptations or revivals that incorporate these classic proportion and design hallmarks.
