Martlesham Antiques is a family run business and has been trading since 1984. Located in Suffolk just outside Woodbridge, Martlesham Antiques is run from a spacious thatched cottage housing nine large showrooms with a vast adjacent car park.

Specialising in 18th and 19th Century furniture, together with creating custom hand-made furniture which is supplied to various interior designers, trade and the retail market. Every piece on the showroom floor is in excellent condition and ready to go straight into the buyers home or premises.

All of Martlesham Antiques furniture is hand polished by their own French polishers and restorers to a very high standard. We are also a member of LAPADA, the association of art and antiques.

Masons ironstone is a heavy, durable earthenware patented by Charles James Mason in Staffordshire, England, in 1813. It was engineered as a robust alternative to imported Chinese porcelain and is characteristically decorated with Oriental-inspired or Imari floral patterns.

Ironstone is made from clay blended with slag, ground flint, stone, and feldspar to create a dense, vitreous ceramic body. Designs were produced via underglaze transfer-printing, frequently detailed by hand with vitreous enamels and finished with gilt accents.

Authentic pieces generally feature impressed or printed makers marks on the base, such as a crown and banner. Key physical characteristics include substantial weight, a cold dense feel, a subtle blue-grey glaze cast, and faint wear or crazing consistent with age.

Ironstone bowls can be mounted on wall displays using plate hangers, layered inside glass-fronted cabinets, or styled along open kitchen shelving to introduce pattern and historic colour into modern schemes.
