Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Scandinavian Art Deco centre table dates from 1920 and is made from flame birch, birch veneer, and timber inlay in a warm golden amber colour. The circular top displays a sunburst veneer pattern with segments fanning out from the centre, an inlaid border detail, and a deep apron. The piece is raised on a concave pedestal stem that flares outward, above a quadform base supported by turned bun feet. Very slight ridging to the veneer in the middle and minor surface marks are visible, consistent with age and use following a hand re-polish in the workshop. The table measures 76.8 cm high, 113.6 cm wide, and 113.6 cm deep. Position this centre table in a grand hallway entrance or as a statement focal point in the middle of a principal room around the home. It provides a functional surface for displaying decorative items while bringing refined geometry and rich timber grain to an interior scheme. The sturdy construction ensures it is ready for everyday use.

FAQs

Emerging in the 1920s and 1930s, Scandinavian Art Decofrequently associated with the Swedish Grace movementcombined classical proportions with simplified geometric forms. The movement emphasised native light timbers such as flame birch, subtle marquetry, and clean silhouettes over heavy surface ornamentation.

Tables from this period typically feature native Scandinavian light timbers, particularly flame or curly birch veneers arranged in radial or starburst patterns over solid wood frames. Decorative inlaid borders, ebonised or contrasting accents, and flared pedestal bases are hallmark construction techniques.

Authentic pieces display highly skilled veneer work with symmetrical grain alignment, such as book-matched or segmented starburst tabletop designs. Key identifiers include heavy quadform or flared pedestal bases, subtle inlaid stringing, and high-grade birch cut to display natural flame figure.

A light-toned birch centre table functions as a focal point in an entryway or foyer, or as a compact dining table in a contemporary dining space. The warm golden wood tones pair effectively with neutral colour palettes, textured linen, structural ceramics, and modern architectural lighting.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent the birch veneer from fading, drying, or lifting. Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish periodically, avoiding harsh chemical spray cleaners.
