Description

A James Dudson brown jasperware cheese bell and stand, circa 1860, the brown mocha-coloured ground with a continuous hunting scheme of figures with horses and hounds, with oak leaf garland borders, the handle moulded in the form of a sheaf of wheat.

In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, the stand does have some discolouration to the white jasper decoration.

Jasperware covers, initially developed by Wedgwood and later manufactured by Staffordshire potteries such as Dudson, featured raised sprigged relief designs against coloured matte stoneware.
