Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese porcelain foo dogs, also known as guardian lions or shi shi, are traditional ceramic statues created to represent protective spirits. Typically produced in pairs representing male and female energy, they are styled with decorative manes, stylized facial features, and ceremonial symbols.

Qing period enamelled porcelain was crafted using kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to form a durable ceramic body. Craftsmen applied overglaze enamels, such as lead-based vitreous glazes in shades of iron red, green, and yellow, before subjecting the piece to a secondary lower-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic Qing dynasty porcelain figures exhibit specific characteristics including hand-carved details, irregularities in glaze thickness, natural age wear on unglazed foot rims, and distinctive enamel colour palettes typical of late imperial kilns.

A Chinese porcelain foo dog functions as a focal accent on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or console table. Designers frequently group polychrome ceramic figures alongside books or minimalist decor to create visual balance between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Maintain enamelled porcelain by dusting regularly with a dry, soft-bristled brush. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners or immersing the object in water, as moisture can enter fine glaze crackle lines or unglazed firing areas.
