Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour intaglios are miniature plaster, sulphur, or glass paste casts of classical engraved gems and ancient sculptures, collected by wealthy travellers touring Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries as educational and aesthetic souvenirs.

They were typically cast from plaster of Paris, tinted sulphur, or specialized glass pastes known as Tassie pastes, and are frequently mounted on velvet or fabric within wooden display frames.

Authenticity is determined by the crispness of the relief casting, the type of historic framing materials, natural ageing on the plaster and wood, and hand-written catalogue numbering or labels often found on the reverse.

They work effectively when hung singly or in curated groupings on panelled walls, within a traditional study, or displayed on specialist stands against textured wallpapers to highlight their classical detail.

Plaster casts are extremely fragile and sensitive to moisture; they should be kept away from direct sunlight and high humidity, and cleaned only gently with a soft, dry brush to remove dust without touching the delicate surfaces.
