Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, frequently looked back to earlier Georgian and Regency periods for inspiration, favouring lighter proportions, graceful lines, and refined neoclassical motifs compared to heavy Victorian designs.

Cabinet makers of this era typically used solid timbers such as mahogany and satinwood, often enhanced with fine stringing, crossbanding, and hand-cut joinery, supported by traditional hand-turned or tapered legs.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetails in any drawers, traditional secondary woods on inner framing, and the natural patina of the polish rather than uniform modern finishes.

Pairing a traditional wooden console with minimalist modern lighting, abstract wall art, or clean-lined accessories creates a balanced interior scheme that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a dry lint-free cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the finish.
