FAQs

Stick stands became popular in British homes during the Victorian era as formal hallways and entranceways evolved to accommodate wet weather gear and walking canes for polite society.

These functional objects were typically constructed using a combination of cast brass, cast iron for the base and drip tray, and sometimes turned hardwoods or ceramics.

Authentic pieces usually feature heavy cast metal components, construction methods consistent with late 19th-century manufacturing such as threaded screws or riveted joints, and natural patination on the brass and iron.

Placed near an entryway, it serves as a practical yet decorative accent piece that adds metallic texture and traditional character to contemporary hallways.

Maintain the metalwork by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that strip the historic patina, ensuring the drip tray is kept dry to prevent corrosion.
