An Edwardian Mahogany Sutherland drop leaf dining table seats for and dating from around 1900. This lovely table has a moulded edge to the top with turned gate leg to each leaf. It has two turned supports to each end on a liar foot on castors with a bobbin turned stretcher across the bottom.

Measures: Height: 29.5" x Depth Closed: 10" x Depth Open: 42" x Width: 42"

A Sutherland table is a specialized form of narrow drop-leaf table that originated in the mid-19th century and remained popular through the Edwardian period. Named after the Duchess of Sutherland, it features very deep hinged flaps supported by pivoting gatelegs, allowing it to fold down into an exceptionally slim profile.

Edwardian Sutherland tables were predominantly constructed using fine hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The structural framework typically includes turned timber legs, brass rule joints for the leaves, and small ceramic or brass castors fitted to the base.
