This seventeenth-century framed antique map of Bohemia originates from the Dutch Golden Age, presenting paper cartography compiled by Johannes Janssonius. The paper exhibits a beige background with gently aged hand-colouring in shades of blue and pink along the borders, a decorative title cartouche, heraldic crest motifs, and a visible time-worn aged patina beneath glass. The piece is set within an ebonised wooden frame featuring gold detailing and decorative mouldings, and is dressed to the rear with hanging wire. The object measures 61.5 cm high, 70 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. Suitably placed above a sideboard in a gentleman's library or study, this historic wall art enhances collector interiors focused on historic European cartography. It functions as a decorative display piece ready for domestic mounting, bringing period geographical detail into modern rooms through its framed atlas engraving format.

During the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century, cartographers in Amsterdam led the world in geographic publishing, producing detailed copperplate engraved maps with decorative cartouches and hand colouring.

These maps were printed using engraved copper plates onto handmade rag paper, often featuring hand-applied watercolour washes for territorial boundaries and decorative elements.

Authentic period maps display a visible plate mark around the image border from the printing press, chain lines and watermarks in the laid paper, and central fold marks indicating removal from an atlas.

Positioning a framed map above a sideboard or desk creates a focal point, contrasting historic linework against contemporary neutral walls and modern furniture.

Frame the map using acid-free archival mounts and UV-protective glass to prevent fading and discolouration, ensuring it is hung away from direct sunlight and damp environments.
