This nineteenth-century Staffordshire earthenware portrait figure depicts Queen Victoria seated upon a throne, rendered in a Victorian style with hand-painted enamel decoration. The piece displays a cobalt blue gown, an ermine-trimmed red cloak with black spots, a green backrest on the throne, and gilded accents along the square base and attire. Visible details include a crown upon her head, both hands resting in her lap, and her feet placed upon a cushion above the base, alongside areas showing past restoration. The object measures 15.5 cm high, 9 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. Placed upon a mantelpiece, this figurine brings a touch of traditional English country house character to a living room, study, or hallway interior.

Staffordshire portrait figures are lead-glazed earthenware statuettes manufactured predominantly in Staffordshire, England, during the 19th century, depicting royalty, military heroes, and famous public figures.

These figures were fashioned using press-moulded earthenware decorated with hand-applied enamel colours and lead glazes, frequently finished with gilt highlights and flat backs designed to sit flush against walls.

Authentic period pieces generally display moulded seam lines, unglazed undersides with small steam escape holes, natural surface crazing within the glaze, and slight irregularities from hand-painted enamel application.

Displaying these figures alongside modern literature on a bookshelf, curated on a mantelpiece, or within a glass-fronted cabinet creates an engaging dialogue between historic craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Dust gently using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth, taking care to avoid water submersion or harsh chemical cleaners that could degrade overglaze enamel paint and original gilt detailing.
