Brass umbrella and stick stands gained widespread popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian periods as practical yet decorative accessories for grand entrance halls to hold wet umbrellas and walking canes.

These items are typically constructed from cast or sheet brass, often featuring soldered joints, turned finials, and a removable metal drip tray at the base to catch water.

Authentication involves examining the weight of the metal, signs of age-appropriate patina and oxidation, hand-finished joints, and construction methods consistent with historical manufacturing periods.

Position the stand in an entrance hallway to introduce a polished metallic accent that contrasts effectively against neutral walls and modern architectural finishes.

Maintain the metal by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that strip the historical patina, preserving the natural oxidisation.
