FAQs

French vineyard tables were historically utilised by workers during the grape harvest for communal outdoor meals and administrative tasks in the vineyards. Their clever folding mechanism allowed them to be easily transported, stored, and set up as needed across the countryside.

Authentic pieces typically feature a combination of durable hardwoods like oak for the structural base and legs, paired with softer woods such as pine for the planked tabletop. Traditional joinery, hand-turned elements, and collapsible wooden hinges define their robust construction.

Authenticity is identified by examining the natural patina, tool marks from hand-working the timber, traditional peg joinery, and wear patterns consistent with age and agricultural use. The grain should show natural oxidisation without modern chemical treatments.

Pair the organic textures and warm wood tones of the table with clean-lined modern seating to create a balanced, eclectic aesthetic. It functions well as a versatile breakfast table in a kitchen or as an accent piece in an open-plan living space.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood grain. Avoid placing the piece in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out and splitting.
