Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830, encompassing significant stylistic evolutions from heavy walnut designs to refined neoclassical mahogany pieces influenced by designers like Thomas Chippendale and Thomas Sheraton.

Georgian case pieces were traditionally constructed from solid timbers and veneers of imported Cuban or Honduras mahogany, frequently featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, oak secondary woods, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetailing, period brasses with correct patination, and timber shrinkage consistent with age rather than modern mechanical fabrication.

Integrating a period sideboard into a modern scheme involves balancing the rich dark wood tones with minimalist wall colors, contemporary abstract art, and streamlined accessories to create a curated, layered aesthetic.

Preserve antique mahogany by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber surface.
