A very impressive and very wide antique Georgian style inlaid mahogany console table, made in England and dating from around the 1930’s.

This is of beautiful quality and is extremely well made. It is a very useful size, slim from front to back and it is very wide, with useful storage space in the three drawers. The drawers are solid oak lined, with brass ring pull handles. It stands on beautifully turned and fluted legs, this has a nicely cross banded top which is serpentine shaped.

The Georgian style encompasses the periods of the reigns of the first four Georges, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the introduction of refined woods like mahogany as trade routes expanded.

Makers predominantly used solid hardwoods such as mahogany and oak, often incorporating secondary timbers like pine for drawer linings and fine veneers or stringing for decorative inlay work.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-turned elements, aged patina, and traditional fixings, distinguishing them from later reproduction items.

Integrating an antique console table into a modern space creates focal contrast; balance the traditional wood tones with minimalist lighting, contemporary mirrors, or abstract art.

Preserve the finish by keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
