A 19th century parian sculpture of a pair of handsome hunting hounds.

Inscribed to the base with the sculptor's initials F/T.

Parian is a type of biscuit porcelain, imitating marble, developed in the mid-nineteenth century. With an unglazed finish the detail of the sculpture remains beautifully sharp. This is a lovely example in excellent condition - no breakages or repairs; and with fine detail and colour.

Parian ware was produced using a high proportion of feldspar mixed with clay, cast into liquid slip moulds, and fired at lower temperatures to produce a smooth, semi-translucent matte finish.
