Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The William IV period spans from approximately 1830 to 1837, bridging the Regency era and early Victorian design. It is characterised by substantial proportions, robust classical motifs, and a heavy reliance on dark, richly grained timbers such as rosewood and mahogany.

These tables are typically constructed using solid pine or mahogany as a secondary wood, veneered extensively with high-figure Brazilian rosewood. Construction features include sturdy central pedestals with tripartite or quadrupartite platforms, frequently mounted on recessed castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetails where applicable, heavy dense timbers with natural oxidisation, and traditional shellac or French polish finishes. Look for deep, highly figured wood grain veneers and robust structural joinery indicative of 19th-century cabinet making.

This table can serve as a dramatic focal point in a large hallway or act as a striking centrepiece in an open-plan living space. Pair it with minimalist seating to create a balanced contrast between historical gravity and modern simplicity.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels and keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and periodically nourish the French polished surface with appropriate wax.
