Wooden butter prints and stamps were traditionally used in domestic and small-scale dairy farming from the 18th to the early 20th century to stamp proprietary marks, family crests, or decorative motifs into pats of butter.

Butter prints and moulds were typically carved from close-grained, non-porous hardwoods such as sycamore, boxwood, beech, or fruitwoods that could withstand repeated washing and contact with fats without splintering.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-carved details with tool marks, natural patination from years of use and cleaning, shrinkage cracks, and wear consistent with age rather than machine-cut symmetry.

These pieces work well mounted on walls as textural wall art, displayed on open kitchen shelving, or placed on a dresser to add organic warmth and historical interest to rustic or minimalist spaces.

Wood treen should be kept away from direct heat sources and dramatic humidity fluctuations to prevent cracking, and cleaned only with a dry or barely damp cloth without soaking in water.
