FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four King Georges of Britain from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and refined craftsmanship influenced by Palladian architecture and cabinetmakers like Chippendale and Sheraton.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised imported Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often enhanced with satinwood or ebony stringing and veneers, employing traditional dovetail joints for drawers and hand-turned brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed through timber patination, hand-cut dovetailing in the drawer construction, old tool marks, appropriate secondary woods like pine or oak, and period-correct brass fittings.

Pairing a period writing table with contemporary minimalist seating or placing it against a neutral wall allows the historical wood grain and subtle inlay to serve as a sophisticated focal point.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources, supplemented by occasional applications of high-grade beeswax to nourish the timber.
