A very decorative terracotta urn. The bowls with mythological horned and bearded heads and applied flora and fauna swags very much in the Adams style. Good gadrooned and fluted lower bodies and square bases. 1 or 2 minor chips/knocks due to age and use but overall in good condition.

Would look spectacular in the house or conservatory.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The Adams style originated in 18th-century Britain through the architectural work of the Adam brothers, who drew heavy inspiration from classical Greek and Roman antiquities to create elegant, symmetrical interiors and ornamentation.

Neoclassical urns are traditionally fashioned from fired terracotta, carved stone, cast iron, or coade stone, often featuring hand-finished details and classical motifs.

Authentication relies on examining the consistency of the clay, natural weathering patterns, tool marks, and historical firing techniques characteristic of the period.

Place the urn as a focal point on a sturdy console or plinth, allowing its classical proportions and textured material to contrast cleanly against minimalist modern backgrounds.

Clean terracotta gently with a soft brush and water, avoiding harsh chemicals or pressure washing, and store indoors during harsh winter frosts to prevent cracking.
