First Period Worcester refers to porcelain produced at the Worcester factory from its founding in 1751 until 1783, known for its experimental paste bodies and exceptional painting.

Early Worcester pieces typically utilised a soapstone (steatite) enriched paste body, which provided greater thermal shock resistance and allowed for delicate potting.

Authenticity is assessed through examination of the paste under magnification, glaze characteristics, hand-painted underglaze blue or enamel details, and characteristic square fret or crescent marks.

Antique ceramics add texture and history when displayed on plate stands, incorporated into gallery walls, or styled within modern cabinetry as focal points.

Antique porcelain should be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water with mild detergent when necessary, avoiding ultrasonic cleaners, harsh chemicals, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
