This Edwardian occasional table dates from 1900 and works well at the end of a sofa in an English country house interior. The piece is constructed from mahogany, boxwood, and satinwood, presenting a warm brown colour with pale marquetry and stringing details. The shaped top displays decorative floral marquetry panels at either end alongside fine boxwood stringing along the edge and a central inlaid frieze motif. Square tapered legs terminate in spade feet and connect via X-shaped stretchers supporting a central circular galleried undertier with vertical spindles. The timber displays a polished finish with visible grain variations across the top surface. Measuring 72 cm high, 82 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, this table functions practically for holding decorative accessories or lighting in a living room space. The compact footprint fits readily into seating arrangements or hallways without dominating the floor area, offering accessible surface space and a lower display shelf. The structured stretcher framework provides physical stability while the raised undertier adds secondary display capacity. The piece arrives ready for domestic placement.

Emerging between 1901 and 1910, Edwardian furniture revived earlier 18th-century classical designs, combining refined mahogany timber with intricate satinwood or boxwood marquetry and geometric stringing.

Cabinetmakers typically used fine-grained mahogany paired with contrasting fruitwood, boxwood, or satinwood inlays, utilizing mortise and tenon joinery alongside turned stretchers and tapered legs.

Authentic pieces feature precise geometric or floral wood inlays, delicate tapered legs, fine timber cut lines beneath aged polish, and period-appropriate underside oxidisation alongside light natural surface wear.

Position the piece as an accent side table beside a contemporary sofa or within a hallway, pairing its rich timber tones with neutral upholstery, modern lamps, and simple ceramic accessories.

Preserve the surface by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, and keeping the item away from direct heat sources and humidity fluctuations.
