FAQs

Treen encompasses small wooden household and utilitarian items made from the 16th century onwards, with Edwardian pieces reflecting high standards of domestic craftsmanship, often featuring hand-carved agricultural motifs.

These items were predominantly hand-carved from seasoned domestic hardwoods like sycamore, maple, and beech, chosen for their dense grain and pale colour, using traditional gouges and chisels.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved tool marks, natural ageing, appropriate patina, and signs of historical wear rather than uniform machine finishing or artificial distressing.

It can be displayed as a textural tabletop centrepiece on a dining table, or mounted on a kitchen wall to add warmth and historical character to a modern minimalist scheme.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and moisture, periodically treating the surface with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to prevent drying and cracking.
