FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four King Georges of Great Britain, encompassing periods of refined classical proportions, architectural symmetry, and a transition from heavy walnut to fine mahogany.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised imported timbers such as mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, oak secondary woods, and brass hardware including cast drop handles or oval backplates.

Authenticity is identified through traditional hand tools marks, uneven timber shrinkage, hand-forged screws, and secondary woods like oak or pine used in drawer linings and back panels.

Pairing a historic wooden desk with modern minimalist seating creates a striking contrast that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the antique piece.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels, keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and periodically nourish the surface with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
