Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE EDWARDIAN ERA:
Scribed timber deck: surface wear and natural patination from handling.
Brass mast bands and deck chainplates: hand-fitted early 20th-century model rigging hardware.
Stitched cotton sails: natural discolouration and creasing acquired over many decades.
Turned wooden rigging blocks: traditional cordage work.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Edwardian maritime pond yacht model dates from the early 20th century. The piece comprises a wooden hull painted with a two-tone blue and brown finish, cream fabric canvas gaff-rigged sails, metal hardware including a brass-operated rudder, detailed cordage rigging, and a lead-weighted keel resting upon a wooden display stand. Visible details include weathered textures on the fabric sails, mounted masts, tensioned lines, and structural seams along the painted wooden body. Practical dimensions are 131 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. The model suits placement on a sideboard top to add a coastal retreat aesthetic to a living room, hallway, or study.

FAQs

Pond yachts are small-scale sailing vessels designed for racing on public model-yachting ponds, particularly popular during the late Victorian and early twentieth-century eras.

Traditional pieces were constructed with carved solid timber hulls or plank-on-frame joining, fitted with weighted lead keels, linen or canvas sails, and custom brass or steel rigging fittings.

Authentic examples display aged lead keels, period-appropriate timber construction, hand-stitched linen sails showing natural oxidisation, and functional turnbuckles or rigging hooks.

These decorative maritime pieces work exceptionally well when placed on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or shelving unit to add architectural interest and historic texture to a room scheme.

Dust the hull gently with a soft dry cloth and avoid liquid cleaners, while keeping the piece out of direct sunlight to prevent canvas fraying and timber warping.
