Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese regional console table or writing table is constructed from wood with a red lacquer finish. The piece has a three-drawer front fitted with brass drop handles, including a central drawer plate, alongside carved corner spandrels beneath the frieze and straight square legs. The red lacquered timber surface displays a worn patina along the cleated border of the top, showing the effects of long use and regular polishing. Measuring 84 cm high, 118 cm wide, and 52 cm deep, the table functions practically beside the front door or as a side table and writing desk within a home today.

FAQs

Traditional lacquerware involves applying multiple coats of refined tree sap over a timber frame to create a durable, glossy protective finish, a technique perfected over centuries across East Asia.

These tables are constructed from solid timber frameworks, finished with natural or spirit-based lacquer coatings, and fitted with cast brass or bronze hardware plates and drop handles.

Authentic aged pieces display fine surface craquelure, subtle hand-carved joinery details such as mortise and tenon joints, and natural patination on metal fittings.

A vibrant crimson table acts as a striking accent piece in a neutral hallway, paired with minimal contemporary art, ceramic vessels, or layered alongside natural timber finishes.

Dust surfaces using a soft dry microfibre cloth, avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat radiators, and maintain stable indoor humidity to prevent lacquer movement or cracking.
