Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A garden trug is a traditional vessel historically used for gathering flowers, fruit, and vegetables in horticultural settings. Originating primarily in Sussex during the nineteenth century, these wooden containers feature a sturdy handle and slatted or shaped timber body.

Traditional trugs were crafted from lightweight woods such as sweet chestnut for the handle and frame, alongside willow or pine for the body panels. Iron strapping, brackets, or nails were added to reinforce structural joins and corners.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display iron bindings with natural surface oxidisation, hand-cut timber boards, and smooth wear across the central handle. Authentic age is indicated by slight timber shrinkage around rivets and a matte, aged surface finish.

A vintage wooden trug serves as a decorative accent on a dining table or kitchen island when filled with linen, dried flowers, or fresh produce. It can also be placed on a sideboard or hearth to store kindling wood or domestic items.

Store the trug indoors away from direct heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage and cracking. Dust periodically with a dry cloth and apply clear beeswax to the wood, while treating metal components with microcrystalline wax to deter corrosion.
