Leathermaché Architectural Decorations, Putti and others

These very rare pieces are made in Leathermaché, 2 of them are characters in the forms of Putti or cherubs and the other are of a high born couple, their costume seems to date from the 15th-16th Centuries

Lethermaché was commonly used in the past as a form of decoration similar to carved wood or stonework and frequently used under plaster work it is not as durable as wood or stone so not very much of it still survives.

These pieces have been attached to a 19th Century Oak Panel and can be wall hung for display, they have been preserved quite well but they are not perfect and have suffered a few losses

The putti are 23” high and 5” wide, the whole panel is 38” tall, 27” wide and 5” in depth

This 18th century architectural salvage consists of dark brown leathermaché putti term figures mounted vertically on a 19th century oak panel. The Victorian Neo-Renaissance design incorporates two cherubic characters with folded arms and acanthus leaf drapery relief moulding, attached to a timber panel with vertical planking and moulded framing.
