Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French provincial furniture originated in the regional provinces, crafted by local artisans who adapted urban Parisian styles using accessible native timbers such as oak, cherry, and chestnut. These pieces prioritise functional utility and sturdy construction over elaborate court ornamentation, resulting in a distinctive rustic charm.

Traditional construction typically involves solid regional hardwoods like cherry and oak, joined using mortise and tenon techniques with wooden pegs or hand-forged iron nails. Table tops are frequently constructed from wide planks displaying natural grain variations and signs of historical hand-planing.

Authentication relies on inspecting tool marks, timber shrinkage, and joinery methods. Hand-sawn boards, irregular peg placements, hand-forged hardware, and natural patination accumulated through decades of use indicate genuine age rather than modern reproduction.

A rustic low table introduces textural contrast and historical depth into modern spaces. It can be paired with streamlined modern seating or minimalist decor to anchor a room, allowing the natural grain and aged patina to serve as a focal point.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber splitting or fading. Regular dusting with a dry cloth and occasional application of traditional beeswax help nourish the wood and maintain its protective finish.
