Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Staffordshire dogs are earthenware pottery spaniel figurines made in the Staffordshire potteries region of England, predominantly throughout the nineteenth century. Designed to sit as symmetrical pairs on mantelpieces, they were inspired by King Charles Spaniels and became iconic decorative items in Victorian homes.

These figurines were crafted using press-moulded white earthenware clay and coated with a lead glaze. The surface features were completed using hand-painted enamel colours, often including iron red or russet copper patches, black facial details, and gilded collars or chains.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically feature a small release hole at the base or back from the moulding process, slight weight variations, and hand-painted details that are not identical across the pair. Victorian examples often show age-appropriate crazing in the glaze and wear to the gilt or enamel paintwork.

Place a pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or deep window sill to introduce traditional structure and texture. They can also be integrated into curated bookshelf displays or paired with contemporary furniture to create balanced visual contrast.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth to prevent dirt buildup in carved details. Avoid immersing earthenware in water or using abrasive chemicals, as harsh cleaning can strip delicate cold-painted details or gold leaf embellishments.
