Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of antique door handles dates from 1880, styled in the French Chateau manner. The pieces combine gilded brass mounts with smooth white porcelain central grips, creating a refined contrast of materials and colour. Each handle features a curved mounting arm terminating in decorative floral-shaped backplates with screw holes for installation. The metal displays a warm brass tone with gentle signs of vintage wear, complementing the clean white glaze of the ceramic barrels. Small turnings accent the metalwork near the joins, adding texture to the overall construction. The total width of each handle measures 18 cm. In a contemporary interior, these items can be repurposed or fitted to cabinet doors, drawers, or wardrobe fronts to introduce a touch of period character to furniture projects.

FAQs

Brass handles featuring central porcelain or china grips were widely manufactured in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for interior doors, cabinetry, and French windows.

These handles typically feature cast brass mounting brackets attached to a smooth, fired white porcelain central bar using interior threaded rods or metal pins.

Original pieces display hand-finished casting lines, natural surface oxidisation on the brass elements, and age-related wear or subtle crazing in the porcelain glaze.

Incorporate these handles onto modern kitchen cabinetry, restored wardrobes, or bathroom vanity units to introduce texture and period detail into modern schemes.

Clean the china grip using a damp cloth with mild liquid soap, and wipe the brass fittings gently with a dry, soft cloth to avoid stripping the natural patina.
