This nineteenth-century Regency card table takes the form of a fold-over swivel top constructed from warm brown mahogany with crossbanding and a moulded edge, sitting above a plain frieze. The structure is supported by unusually shaped carved mahogany scroll pedestals decorated with carved rosettes, rising from a platform base with four shaped reeded sabre legs terminating in original brass castors. Measuring 75 cm high, 99.5 cm wide and 50 cm deep, the table operates as a compact console against a wall or behind a sofa when closed, expanding to open for games or dining when required. Suitable for placement in a traditional living room, drawing room, or hallway, this piece suits interior settings that call for classic nineteenth-century furniture design. The timber displays visible grain patterns and deep brownish tones throughout the top and base, showing typical signs of age consistent with a period antique. The splayed leg arrangement provides stability, while the swiveling mechanism allows the top to rotate and open smoothly.

A Regency card table is a piece of furniture crafted in Britain between 1811 and 1830, designed specifically for social card games. These tables feature hinged tops that rotate or unfold to reveal a felt-lined playing surface, doubling as slim wall console tables when closed.

Regency card tables were primarily constructed using high-grade timbers such as mahogany, rosewood, or zebrawood, frequently decorated with flame veneers and brass inlaid details. The internal playing surface was traditionally lined with wool baize, while the bases were supported by brass castors.

Authentic Regency card tables display characteristic design elements including sabre legs, carved rosettes, twin-pillar or quad-form pedestal supports, and brass toe cap castors. Examination of the underside often reveals hand-sawn secondary timbers, original iron hinges, and hand-cut joinery.

When kept closed, a Regency card table functions as a console table in an entryway, hallway, or positioned behind a sofa. Decorating the top with contemporary ceramics, table lamps, or framed artwork creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern design.

Maintain the mahogany surface by dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage and fading, and clean the internal baize gently using a soft brush.
