This early nineteenth century Grand Regency card table consists of a rectangular fold-over top in warm brown mahogany and rosewood with crossbanded edging, displaying a slight bow and two small shrinkage splits. The support comprises a sharp, finely carved fluted central column and foliate collar, resting on a four-legged base with carved claw feet. Mouldings frame the thin frieze beneath the top, and the piece shows normal signs of age including worn baize lining that requires replacement. Practical for everyday placement in a home, the piece measures 70 cm high, 95 cm wide and 48 cm deep when closed. It functions well as a decorative console surface or a game table in a drawing room, hallway or living area.

Regency card tables typically feature a fold-over top designed to open for gaming, supported by a central carved pedestal column and a quadripartite plinth base.

Cabinetmakers during this period predominantly utilised dense timbers such as mahogany and rosewood, frequently incorporating decorative flame veneers and hand-carved detailing.

Authentic pieces display period construction features such as hand-cut joinery, a swivel top mechanism opening to a storage compartment, and integrated brass castors on carved feet.

Positioned against a wall when folded, a card table functions effectively as an elegant console or hallway table to display decorative ceramics or table lamps.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight to prevent timber movement.
