Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut refers to the unique, highly figured wood grain obtained from the growth growths of a walnut tree. It gained immense popularity during the late 17th century in the Baroque period and saw a significant revival during the Victorian and Edwardian eras for high-end cabinetry.

These pieces typically feature fine walnut veneers applied to secondary structural timbers like oak or pine using animal glues. Hand-carved decorative elements, mortise and tenon joinery, and dovetailed drawers are standard hallmarks of traditional craftsmanship.

Authenticity is identified by examining the irregularity and depth of the grain pattern, the presence of hand-cut joints, traditional finishing methods such as shellac or wax polish, and age-appropriate wear and shrinkage cracks in the timber.

This type of table serves as a strong focal point in a contemporary living space by contrasting rich, organic textures against minimalist upholstery and clean architectural lines. Pairing it with neutral palettes allows the intricate wood grain to stand out.

Preservation requires keeping the wood away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent veneer cracking. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasional application of quality beeswax helps maintain the natural lustre of the finish.
