Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware originated in the Satsuma province of Japan during the late sixteenth century, evolving significantly during the Meiji period to feature intricate overglaze enamelling and gilding on a buff-coloured earthenware body.

These pieces were crafted using low-fired earthenware with a yellowish cream glaze featuring fine micro-crackle. Decorative details were applied using polychrome enamels, raised slip decoration, and gold leaf gilding.

Authentic Satsuma items display a characteristic cream-coloured earthenware body with a finely crackled clear glaze, dense polychrome enamelling, and frequently bear maker signatures or Shimazu crest marks on the base.

Displaying Satsuma jars on a dark timber sideboard or inside a glass cabinet creates visual contrast, complementing both minimalist modern spaces and traditional eclectically curated interiors.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush, avoiding water immersion or liquid cleaning products that could damage surface gilding, delicate enamels, and porous earthenware.
