Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Japanese Imari charger exhibits the characteristic style and craftsmanship of the Meiji period. Formed from porcelain with a polished glaze, the surface displays a multi-coloured scheme incorporating cobalt blue, iron red, green, and gold enamel. Hand-painted decoration covers the round body, including fan reserves, chrysanthemum blooms, and birds perched upon berry-laden branches beneath a full moon, all enclosed by a patterned border. The composition rests upon a dark carved wooden stand featuring scrolled feet and curved supporting arms against a vertical timber background. Measuring 46.5 cm high by 46.5 cm wide with a 6 cm depth, the item provides a striking decorative focal point. Positioning the charger upon a sideboard top introduces a sense of heritage elegance to an English Country House interior. The detailed hand-painting and traditional motifs complement existing collections of antique porcelain or enrich a display surface within a dining room or living space. Regular care preserves the enamel finish and the detailed ornamentation across the platter.

FAQs

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province, historically shipped to Europe from the port of Imari beginning in the seventeenth century.

Imari wares are crafted from high-fired porcelain decorated with underglaze cobalt blue, complemented by overglaze enamel painting in iron-red, green, gold, and aubergine.

Authentic pieces generally feature asymmetrical panel compositions, intricate floral or avian reserves, hand-applied glaze variations, and characteristic firing marks or wear along the foot rim.

An Imari charger can be displayed upright on a wooden plate stand atop a sideboard, positioned within a chimney breast alcove, or mounted to a wall to introduce historic pattern into contemporary spaces.

Care involves light dusting using a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush, avoiding chemical cleaners, abrasive scrubbers, or prolonged water exposure that can degrade delicate overglaze gilding.
