Description

One beautiful hand-crafted antique Kilim cushion, with a soft brown corduroy backing to compliment the stunning ancient colours and this cushion has a soft feather insert. This cushion has been created using an antique Anatolian Aydin kilim from circa 1870, which was beyond restoration. The early dyes using rare greens, aubergine, orange dyes and soft reds are truly wonderful. As this a very old piece of kilim it does have some marks on there, due to the kilims age.

Each piece used for a cushion has been washed, but occasionally old marks are unable to be removed as this kilim is around 155 years old. There are eight cushions in total made from the same kilim - see all the images attached below.

Aydin is a region in the western area of Konya in Anatolia, located near the mediterranean and is famous for its traditional kilim weaving. Aydin kilims were woven in varying designs from prayer kilims to large kilims woven in two halves. A small hook motif derived from the eight-pointed star was used as an infill or border motif. The area today is an agricultural area where weaving has sadly ceased.
