Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Tilt-top tables, often called snap-top tables, gained popularity in the 18th century as versatile space-saving furniture. The mechanism allowed the tabletop to be locked in a vertical position when not in use, enabling the table to be stored flat against a wall.

These tables were traditionally constructed from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, selected for their strength and grain patterns. The base typically features a tripod configuration joined to a central pillar with a wooden catch mechanism.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joints, natural patination from age and use, and traditional tool marks rather than modern machine finishing. The tilting mechanism often relies on a wooden catch or a brass birdcage support depending on the exact era.

This piece works well as an occasional table next to a sofa or armchair, or tilted against a wall as a decorative feature to showcase its timber grain. Its neutral wood tone complements both traditional and contemporary design schemes.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood. Avoid placing the table in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out and splitting.
