This nineteenth-century console and games table follows the William IV style, constructed from mahogany with a warm brown finish. The polished surface has a fold-over and swivel mechanism to double the usable area when opened, and the frieze incorporates a central drawer fitted with a turned wooden knob handle. Four heavily turned legs support the structure, resting on the lawn during photography. The piece measures 77 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. In a contemporary home, such a table suits a reception room or hallway as a side table or occasional surface when folded, or opens out for card games and dining. The traditional English country house aesthetic integrates easily with period and classic interiors, providing a practical workspace or display surface with historic character.

William IV furniture, dating roughly from 1830 to 1837, marks the transition between Regency elegance and heavier Victorian design, often featuring substantial turned legs, rich mahogany veneers, and restrained carved ornamentation.

These tables were primarily crafted from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often incorporating baize linings, brass hinges, and concealed internal compartments for game pieces.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, original wooden knobs or brass fittings, characteristic heavy turned or reeded legs, and authentic age wear to the timber finish and interior gaming surface.

Positioning the table against a wall allows it to function as an elegant hallway or living room console table, which can then be moved and unfolded for active use during social gatherings.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying high-quality beeswax occasionally, while keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources.
