Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century copperplate engraved map was produced by incising geographical details onto a smooth copper sheet using a steel graver. The plate was inked, wiped, and pressed onto damp rag paper to transfer the detailed linework, often followed by hand-tinted watercolour outline washing.

These maps were printed on handmade cotton or linen rag paper using iron gall or oil-based black printing ink. Outline colouring was applied by hand using natural mineral and botanical watercolour pigments.

Authentic prints feature a distinct indented plate mark around the image border created by heavy printing pressure. Examination under magnification reveals continuous hand-applied pigment and chain lines or watermarks inherent to laid paper of the period.

A historical map can be framed using a neutral, acid-free mount and a simple timber or gilded frame. It works well styled within a gallery wall, mounted above a desk in a home office, or placed along a hallway corridor.

Store or frame maps away from direct sunlight, using UV-protective glass to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation. Maintain a stable indoor humidity level and ensure all backing materials are acid-free to avoid foxing and discolouration.
