The Regency style, spanning the early to mid-19th century in Britain, drew heavy inspiration from neoclassical architecture and classical antiquity, featuring restrained ornamentation, clean lines, and dark imported timbers such as mahogany.

Cabinetmakers of this period predominantly utilized dense hardwoods like solid mahogany and secondary supports of pine or oak, frequently complemented by cast brass hardware, hand-cut dovetail joints, and traditional shellac finishes.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, tool marks on internal secondary timbers, natural oxidisation in the wood grain, and minor wear patterns consistent with age.

Placing a dark wood antique table against a neutral or brightly painted wall provides a striking contrast, grounding the room while serving as a functional surface for lamps, ceramics, or books.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood finish.
