Outstanding Antique Gilt Wood Picture Frame Chapman Brothers Chelsea

Description

This superb 19th century gilt frame is in outstanding original condition and has a most appealing design.

It is manufactured by the Chapman brothers of Kings Road Chelsea and bears their label to the verso.

The frame has a lovely delicate pink shade showing through the original gilt in a most attractive way.

All the original gesso detail is intact and in beautiful condition.

The deep hand carved gilded wood has a wonderful shape and design with classic gesso mounts and detailing throughout.

George Chapman was the founder of the company in 1868

A master gilder & frame maker, he employed 4 men including his brother Joseph.

By 1901 he also employed his sons Edwin and John Chapman.

The business produced quality frames for world renowned artists such as John Singer Sargent, Sir William Orpen and many prominent artists

A fine museum quality piece in really remarkable condition dating from around 1890.

This substantial frame is a good 11 cms deep it measures 50 cms by 43 cms and the aperture is 29 cms by 22 cms with the rebate being

Rams Head Antiques is a family business based in Wolsingham in Weardale where we have had shop premises for 28 years. The shop is generally open every Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm.
