An 18th Century Needlework Picture

England, circa 1740-1760.
 
The canvas worked in tent stitch in silk and wool with roses, carnations and other flowers in a basket set amid strawberries and a small oak growing from rolling hillocks, the whole against a yellow ground.
 
The needlework on a stretcher backed with 18th century sized red linen within a narrow mahogany frame that would originally have formed part of a pole screen. See Victoria & Albert Museum accession number W.59-1926 for a similar pole screen and needlework.
