Description

An early Wedgwood Butterfly Lustre bowl, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones around 1915. The exterior is finished in mother-of-pearl lustre, finely hand-painted with gilded butterflies in soft pastel shades, each detailed with underglaze polychrome. The interior displays vibrant orange lustre with mottled crimson and a central medallion featuring butterflies and oriental motifs. Such early examples are especially valued for their rare color combinations and the unique interpretation of the butterfly theme, a hallmark of Makeig-Jones’ work. The Butterfly Lustre range, produced from 1914 to 1929, became the second most sought-after Wedgwood lustre pattern, surpassed only by the Dragon Lustre. Marked Wedgwood, England, Z4832 to the base.

Condition: The bowl is in excellent original condition, with fresh lustre, gilding, and no damage. Reflections may appear in the images — these are not flaws in the item, but rather visual effects caused by the lustre glaze. Slight distortions or highlights are a natural result of its iridescent surface.
