Large French Biscuit Porcelain Figures, Marked Chantilly, Late 19th Century

Description

A rare and decorative pair of large French biscuit porcelain figures, each inscribed CHANTILLY on the base and most probably produced by Vion & Baury in Paris during the late 19th century. The pair features a gallant couple in finely detailed rococo revival costume, with particular attention given to facial modelling and the soft, pastel-painted garments. These substantial figures stand on shaped bases with raised gilt CHANTILLY marks, a feature characteristic of revival pieces from leading Parisian workshops of the Belle Époque.

These are not products of the original Chantilly manufactory, but refined decorative works representing the 19th-century French fascination with 18th-century styles. Their impressive scale and technical execution make them highly desirable for collectors and interior decorators.

Condition:

The lady is missing several fingers from her left hand. The gentleman is missing the little finger on his right hand, a piece of the left sleeve is chipped offOtherwise, both remain in excellent antique condition, with well-preserved original painting and no restoration.
