Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Piano babies are unglazed bisque porcelain figurines representing infants, popular during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They were originally designed to sit on silk shawls draped over grand pianos to weigh them down and prevent them from slipping.

These figures were cast in multi-part moulds using bisque porcelain, which is fired twice without a liquid glaze to create a matte finish. Details such as skin tones, clothing patterns, and gilding were applied by hand.

Authentic pieces feature a smooth matte porcelain texture, fine hand-painted details, and hollow interiors. Original late Victorian and Edwardian examples frequently originate from German manufacturers and bear impressed mould numbers or maker marks on the underside.

Beyond placement on a piano, these decorative porcelain figures can be styled on a mantelpiece, a sideboard top, or inside a glass-fronted cabinet. Pairing them with dark wood furniture or polished brass creates a classic display.

Dust the figurines regularly using a soft brush or dry microfibre cloth to clean intricate detail lines. Avoid using water or chemical cleaners, as moisture can damage cold-painted details or delicate gilding.
