FAQs

Satinwood gained immense popularity during the late 18th century, particularly within the neoclassical and Sheraton styles, valued for its golden sheen and suitability for delicate painted decorations.

These pieces typically utilised dense exotic hardwoods veneered with satinwood, often enhanced with hand-painted polychrome floral motifs and fine stringing inlay.

Authenticity is determined by examining timber shrinkage, hand-cut joinery, the natural ageing and crazing of the varnish, and the meticulous execution of the hand-painted details.

It functions effectively as an occasional piece in a living room or hallway, providing a contrasting textural focal point against neutral walls and minimalist furnishings.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting and varnish fading, and maintain it by occasionally applying microcrystalline wax.
