Victorian Staffordshire figures were popular ceramic ornaments produced in the Staffordshire pottery district of England during the 19th century, typically displayed on mantelpieces by the middle classes.

These figures were generally slip-cast or hand-moulded from earthenware clay, then hand-painted with underglaze colours and often highlighted with gold lustre before being kiln-fired.

Authentic pieces typically feature crazing in the glaze, vent holes on the underside or back, hand-painted details with minor imperfections, and an absence of modern maker stamps.

They can be displayed on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard as sculptural focal points to introduce historical texture and traditional character into contemporary spaces.

Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent paint fading, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid using liquid cleaners or submerging them in water.
