FAQs

Nineteenth-century console tables often incorporate revival motifs, dramatic curves, and elaborate hand-carved ornamentation inspired by earlier classical and baroque periods.

These pieces typically utilise dense hardwoods like walnut or mahogany, constructed with traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, and finished with hand-carved detailing.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut joinery, timber grain patterns, natural ageing and oxidisation of the wood, and tool marks consistent with period craftsmanship.

Pairing a traditional wooden console with minimalist contemporary art or modern lighting creates a balanced contrast that highlights the historic craftsmanship.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
