This 18th-century Dutch Delft charger presents a circular tin-glazed earthenware form decorated with hand-painted cobalt blue floral and geometric motifs. The surface displays a central floral medallion surrounded by concentric patterns and intricate foliate detailing across the well and wide rim, which is finished with a scalloped band. Several small frits and minor glaze losses appear along the outer edge, revealing the white earthenware body beneath the glossy finish. Measuring 36 cm wide, the charger sits comfortably on a wooden tabletop. In a contemporary home, this decorative ceramic plate functions well as a display piece on a sideboard top or as part of a wall-mounted collection in a traditional dining space or kitchen. The deep blue pigments contrast sharply against the white background, offering an authentic English country house aesthetic suitable for everyday interior styling.

A Delft charger is a large, decorative tin-glazed earthenware serving dish or display plate originally produced in and around Delft in the Netherlands, as well as in parts of England, beginning in the late sixteenth century.

They are formed from an earthenware clay body coated with an opaque white tin glaze, which creates a bright surface for hand-painted cobalt oxide decoration prior to firing.

Authentic period examples feature a buff or reddish earthenware body visible beneath small rim chips, subtle brushwork variations in the cobalt blue pigment, and age-appropriate glaze crazing.

Display the charger upright on a plate stand atop a sideboard, place it inside a glass display cabinet, or mount it securely as part of a ceramic wall arrangement.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth. Avoid soaking in water or using harsh chemical cleaners, as tin glaze can absorb moisture through unglazed areas or chips.
